ZANER UPDATE!!!!
Hello Zane Friends and Family! Yesterday was #WorldCancerDay, but here at #MakeZaneBetter, we are aware every day and we do all we can to help all those who have had to or continue to fight this battle. It's never on one person. It takes a lot of support to get through it all. Thank you all for being his supporters!.
That said, let's get the update we've all been waiting for. For reasons that don't matter now, it's taken two months to get the full picture of Zane's 17-Dec brain MRI. The GOOD NEWS is we still can declare that Zane has NO deposits of the cancer in his brain, nor is his tumor regrowing. That, my friends, is cause for a roaring celebration! In the past two days, we do have a bit of a concern about the metastases of cancer that previously spread to Zane's right pelvic bone. He has started wincing in pain for no other apparent reason when his right hip is moved in any small way. Working on a PET scan of his bones to see what's happening there. But, it could just be that he's stiff and sore. Let's go with that for now, shall we?
Now, about the TBI (traumatic brain injury) sustained from his cardiac arrest series. The MRI shows "extensive T2 prolongation in the supratentorial white matter. This presumably represents sequela of hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy as well as treatment related changes. Persistent prominent dural thickening and enhancement overlying the cerebrum and cerebellum that remains consistent with diffuse subdural fibrosis." WHAT DOES THAT MEAN? Not sure 100%, but it does mean that a turn-about in the near future is unlikely. But, Zane hasn't declined neurologically, so I'm not getting myself too worked up over this. Neither is his neuro oncologist. We will be looking to bring a local neurologist and an oncologist into the fold. But, as always, I'm blocked by insurance issues, but I will get through all that red tape. I always do!
Someone said to me recently that Zane's life will still have purpose. AMEN. Right now his purpose is to show us all how to have HOPE. Please keep my boy in your prayers. Here he is right now, having a rest, letting that brain and those new pains heal.
