Buh Bye, Mucous Lung Buildup

Hello and good morning from ICU 417 at Methodist Hospital in Memphis. Zane had a good night. His bronchostomy procedure yesterday afternoon was a success and Zane had several mucous plugs removed from his left lung and is doing far better breathing. He was back on the vent for recovery, but switched back to trach collar just a bit ago and so far, so good.

Today's plan is to move him from am NG (nasogastric) feeding tube to a peg system, which will also make him more comfortable, losing the tube in his nose. Then, if all is well, we will go back to a stepdown floor again.

Calls are being made and people that are decision-makers to transfer Zane down to Florida are still underway. It's still too early in the talks to say a plan has been set, but the fact that talks are happening is a good sign. Keep praying for this to happen! Everyone agrees it's the best scenario; it's just a matter of all the logistics and if it feasibly can happen.

This picture popped up in my memories this morning. Ten years ago in 2010, Zane had his elementary school graduation at Dommerich Elementary School in Maitland, Florida. Congratulations to all the grads having ceremonies of all types this week, especially my nephew Devin Schaal who graduates high school today! Way to go, Devin!
